Airborne electromagnetic (AEM) surveying has come a long way since its roots as a qualitative “bump finding” technique, to a quantitative technology for subsurface imaging. This advancement has led to a rapid expansion of AEM coverage over Australia and worldwide. The AEM team at Geoscience Australia is experienced across all aspects of AEM surveying including survey planning, data acquisition, through to processing and inversion. In this half-day workshop we aim to pass on our experience and learn from others by demonstrating AEM theory and practice interactively.

The workshop will cover AEM data acquisition, inversion, and conductivity model uncertainty quantification. The goal is to assure AEM data are acquired to a high standard, leading to the best, decision-support-ready imaging products. Participants will need to bring their own laptop to participate in web-based, cloud-hosted notebook exercises.
