MT is being increasingly used for mineral exploration, especially in regions with thick cover or where lithospheric-scale data are used for mineral systems targetting.

This workshop is designed for geophysicists who commission and use MT and want a better understanding of the reliability and interpretation of their MT models. It will include an overview of:

  • MT theory – induction, skin depth and model resolution
  • Standard processed data formats such as apparent resistivity and phase sounding curves and edi files, with interpretation points and QA/QC checks
  • 1D, 2D and 3D inversion approaches – their strengths and weaknesses, when to choose each approach and QA/QC checks
  • Interpretation – causes of MT anomalies in the crust and mantle
