Arriving into Cairns

Located just 7 km from the city centre, Cairns Airport is the primary gateway to the region, offering both domestic and international flights.

  • Domestic Flights: Direct connections from major cities like Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, and Adelaide

Airport Transfers

When you arrive at Cairns Airport, a range of convenient transport options are available to get you to your accommodation or the city centre:

  • Taxis:
    • Duration: 10–15 minutes
    • Pickup: Directly outside both terminals (T1 & T2)
  • Ride-Sharing: Uber and other services are readily available
  • Shuttle Services:
    • Providers: Cairns Airport Shuttle, Exemplar Coaches, Sun Palm, Just Go
    • Booking: Reserve your seat online or at the airport transfer desks
  • Car Rentals: Major rental agencies are located on-site

Getting Around Cairns

Cairns offers a variety of easy transport options to explore the city and beyond:

  • Walkable City: The compact CBD is perfect for exploring on foot, especially along the scenic Esplanade
  • Public Buses: Kinetic buses connect the CBD to beaches, suburbs, and shopping centres
  • Taxis & Rideshares: Easily accessible throughout the city, with taxi ranks at City Place and Reef Fleet Terminal, plus designated rideshare zones at the airport
  • Shuttles & Transfers: Shared or private transfers are available between Cairns Airport, city hotels, Palm Cove, and Port Douglas

Cycling and e-scooters – Bike hire and e-scooter rentals are popular for short trips, especially along scenic paths by the waterfront.

ABOUT ASEG

The ASEG is a non-profit company founded in 1970. Its aims are:
  • to promote the science of geophysics, and specifically exploration geophysics, throughout Australia.
  • to foster fellowship and co-operation between geophysicists.
  • to encourage closer understanding and co-operation with other earth scientists.
  • to assist in design and teaching of courses in geophysics and to sponsor student sections where appropriate.
