ASEG State and International Branches offer student bursaries to support attendance at ASEG events and encourage engagement within the geophysics community.
This application process is specific to the 2nd ASEG DISCOVER Symposium (Cairns, 26–30 October 2026).
These bursaries are available to undergraduate (2nd year and above) and postgraduate students studying geophysics or a related discipline. They provide an excellent opportunity to attend one of the region’s leading applied geophysics forums and engage with industry, technical sessions, workshops, and networking events.

Eligibility

Student bursary awards are subject to approval by the applicant’s local ASEG branch, with each application reviewed independently. While ASEG bursaries may support attendance at a range of events, applications submitted through this portal relate to DISCOVER 2026 only. Bursaries will at a minimum cover the cost of student conference registration for DISCOVER 2026. Additional support (such as travel or accommodation) may be provided at the discretion of the relevant ASEG branch.

The final level of support will be confirmed to successful applicants at the time of award. Applicants must provide proof of registration (receipt) as part of their application. Bursaries are paid as a lump sum reimbursement, with the amount determined by the relevant ASEG branch.

Selection criteria

Successful applicants will demonstrate active engagement in the geophysics community, such as:

  • involvement in professional societies
