Katherine McKenna is Manager Exploration Discovery – Innovation at BHP, where she leads initiatives that accelerate mineral discovery through innovation, technology, and integrated geoscience. With more than 35 years of global experience spanning mineral exploration, geophysics, and executive leadership, she has held leadership roles in exploration strategy, technology development, and portfolio generation, including leading BHP’s global sediment hosted copper generative team. Katherine has worked across six continents developing exploration strategies, advancing new discovery opportunities, and building high performing multidisciplinary teams.
She holds an MBA from Curtin University, a BSc in Geology and Geophysics from Macquarie University, and a BA in Classical Languages and Ancient History from the University of New England.
Katherine is a Past President of the Australian Society of Exploration Geophysicists (ASEG), founder of the Ground Geophysical Survey Safety Association (GGSSA), and recipient of the ASEG 50th Anniversary Special Award, recognising her exceptional and highly distinguished contributions to the geoscience profession and the wider exploration community.
